I stood off to the side of the kitchen table, staring at Kade who sat on a high-backed chair. Authority oozed from his pores, and he held his hand out to me. The hard lines of his jaw clenched and released as he waited, and my pussy followed the same damn pattern. When I’d been bent over the tub earlier, I thought the taps were intense, but the scenario which played through my head during dinner was nothing like the one playing out in front of me. He increased the speed of his palm and my nerves lit up with pain.

“I promised to hold you accountable.” He shifted his target down to the lowest curve of my ass and hit it with a resounding slap. Another one and another landed. I lost count at twenty. I wasn’t sure how much more I could handle.

“Ouch! Let me go.” I struggled. There was no comfort against his thighs. “I’ll get another job in another part of the city. I’ll stay out of Devil’s Park forever. Please?”

“It’s not that simple. You’re making promises in order to get out of this punishment, but nothing you can say will make me stop until I believe you’ve learned your lesson.” Kade struck the top of each of my thighs. “You’re caught up in a power struggle. One you have no business being involved in.”

“That wasn’t my fault!” I bucked unable to stay still any longer. My ass and thighs tingled with an uncomfortable sting like I’d been out in the sun too long. I was done.

“Stop fighting me.”

“I’ve got to earn a living. I can’t just hide away forever.”

“You need to be alive in order to earn a living, Caity-bug.
